Sadio Mane beat tough competition from Riyad Mahrez and Liverpool team-mate Mohammed Salah to the CAF African Player of the year award for 2019
He was a top three finalist in the past three years coming third in 2016, when the award was won by Riyad Mahrez
And finishing as runner up in 2017 and 2018 to Mohammed Salah
After cementing his position among football elites Mane has now claimed the Africa’s Top Individual Prize
“I’m really happy and proud to win this. Football is my job, I love it,” said Mane.
“I would like to thank my family, my national team, staff, the federation and Liverpool Football Club. It’s a big day for me.”
The 27-Year old helped the Reds to the 2018-19 Champions league scoring an impressive 30 goals in all competitions in the last season
He has 15 goals to his same so far in the current campaign,
With Liverpool hopeful to end a 30-year drought for the Premier league title having created a 13-point gap at the top of the table
In other categories 21-year old Achraf Hakimi currently on loan from Real Madrid at Borussia Dortmond won the Youth Player of the Year Award.
Mahrez won Goal of the year award for his free kick against Nigeria in the Nations cup semi-final.
Asisat Oshoala Nigerian and Barcelona ace also claimed the Women’s Player of the Year Award.
Algerian coach Djamel Belmadi , won the Men’s Coach of the year award .
While Diseree Ellis, the coach of the South African female team won the award for the female side.
The Men’s National team of the year award went to Algeria for winning the 2019 edition of the African cups of Nations , while Cameroon was named the women National Team of the year.
