Ethiopian Airline On Course to build Africa’s Biggest Airport

Ethiopian Airlines considered one of Africa’s biggest Airline is taking a step forward with the construction of a $5billion Airport.

While speaking to the state news agency, Ethiopian Airlines Chief Executive Officer Tewolde GebreMariam stated,

The Airport projected to be completed in 2020 and will surpass the Dubai International Airport and Heathrow Airport in London.

Located around the town of Bishoftu, South East of the capital Addis Ababa and spanning 35 kilometre square of land ,it will handle as many as 100 million passengers yearly.

Considered to be one of the busiest airports in Africa, Bole International airport in Addis Ababa is almost filled to capacity even after undergoing expansion.

Consequently there is the need for another Airport to take the pressure off the overcrowded airport with increasing amount of travellers.

According to a report on the carrier’s website, Ethiopian Airlines continues to solidify its status as Africa’s most profitable carrier,

reporting a 25% increase in profits to $260 million in 2018-19 as it transported more passengers and cargo.

With revenue of almost $4 billion, an 18% increase from previous year, It could continue to climb as the airline nears its goal of 22 million passengers by 2025.
