8 General Skin Care Tips that can Improve your Skin Health

Skin care

We have different kinds of skin type. You may suspect you oily, sensitive skin, or dry skin, but do you really know your skin type?

It doesn’t matter what your skin type is, a daily skin care routine can help you maintain your skin health and improve specific concerns like scarring, acne, and dark spots.

Basic steps for taking care of the skin

Choose a very good cleanser that won’t leave your skin tight after washing. Clean your face not more than twice a day, or just once, if you have dry skin and don’t wear make up. Cleansers are known to work well for all skin types.

A serum with growth factors, vitamin c or peptides would be better in the morning, under sunscreen. While at night, retinol or prescription retinoids work best.

Oily skin too needs moisturisers, but use one that is lightweight, gel-based, and non-comedogenic, or doesn’t block your pores. Dry skin may benefit from more cream-based moisturisers. Good moisture helps prevent dry and flaky skin no matter your skin type.

Drink plenty of water

Drinking enough water helps keeps your skin soft and supple. It also feeds the skin from the inside. Dehydration has been the major cause for cracked and dry skin.

Exercise Regularly

Exercises like yoga and going for runs helps to increase blood flow to skin and help it free up toxins and decreases stress which can have an unsightly effect on skin.

Read Ingredients Listings

Before buying a skin product look at the ingredient listings avoid product that have toxic ingredients like artificial fragrance, mineral oil, propylene glycol and Parabens. Avoid products with red flags too instead look for product with organic ingredients that won’t harm your skin

Eat healthy food

A healthy food can make you look and feel your best. Eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, lean proteins and whole grains. The association between food and acne isn’t clear but a research suggest that a diet rich in fish oil or fish oil supplements and low in unhealthy fat and processed carbohydrates might promote younger looking skin.

Get plenty of sleep

Getting good sleep is necessary for proper skin cell and tissue rejuvenation, get a restful sleep as much as possible. Read a fun book or listen to music about thirty minutes before your bedtime to stimulate a restful sleep.

Note: Good skin care includes; sun protection and gentle cleansing. It keeps your skin healthy and glowing.
